Vertical Lip

A vertical lip piercing is a piercing that is placed through the center of the lower lip, vertically from the outside to the inside of the lip. Unlike a traditional lip piercing that goes horizontally through the lip, the vertical lip piercing goes from top to bottom, making both ends of the jewelry visible - one on the outside and one on the inside of the mouth. It is usually placed in the middle of the lower lip, but the position can be adjusted according to face shape and preference. It is usually worn with a straight barbell, which makes the piercing both stylish and comfortable.

At Indiapiercing, vertical lip piercing is always performed by experienced piercers who work to the highest hygiene standards. When you arrive at the studio, the piercer will start by going through how the piercing works, what the risks are and what you can expect during the healing period. You will have the opportunity to ask questions before completing a consent form to confirm that you understand the treatment and aftercare.

The next step is to choose the jewelry. Indiapiercing always uses high-quality jewelry, usually made of medical-grade titanium, which is skin-friendly and reduces the risk of irritation or allergic reactions. The piercer will help you choose the right size and length of barbell for the piercing to fit securely and heal optimally.

Before the piercing is done, the area is thoroughly cleaned with disinfectant. The mouth is rinsed with an alcohol-free antibacterial mouthwash to reduce bacteria. The piercer marks the exact location of the piercing so that you can approve the placement before the needle goes through. The piercing itself is done with a sterile disposable needle inserted vertically through the lower lip, and the jewelry is put in place immediately. The procedure is quick and most people experience only a short sting and a slight pressure.

After the piercing, the piercer will check that the jewelry fits correctly and give you thorough instructions for aftercare. This includes good oral hygiene, rinsing your mouth after meals, and avoiding unnecessary picking with the jewelry. The healing time for a vertical lip piercing is usually 6-8 weeks, and with proper care, the piercing usually heals without problems. Indiapiercing is always available for advice throughout the healing period.

When we pierce the vertical lip at India, we use a needle that is 1.3mm thick and insert a bent rod called a banana barbell that is 1.2mm thick and 10/12 mm depending on the thickness of the lip.

What if you have or want to do fillers in the lips?

If you have had fillers in the lower lip, you should wait 6 months before this piercing is performed. If you then want to fill in your lips again, the position of the piercing will most likely change. If fillers are to be performed, it is extremely important to put back the long healing rod because the lips swell.
Healing and health go hand in hand, so it is important that you are healthy when you get pierced and that you stay healthy during the healing period. Avoid alcohol and nicotine. Also avoid baths and saunas for the first 3 weeks. When you pierce yourself at India, a titanium healing jewelry of the same high quality used in healthcare is included. It is hypoallergenic and should be worn for the entire healing time. The lip normally takes 8 - 12 weeks to heal. You can usually change the healing jewelry to another hypoallergenic jewelry after a few months depending on how it feels and looks. When changing the jewelry, it is important that you use freshly washed hands. Unscrew the ball on the healing jewelry. Spray with India disinfectant spray and wash clean with a cotton pad. Disinfect your new jewelry with rubbing alcohol such as Chlorhexidine. Carefully insert your new jewelry. It is important that you always have a piece of jewelry in your new hole. In the first year, the healing process is fragile and sensitive, and it is not unusual for irritation to occur during the healing period. During the healing period, it is not unusual for it to be sore. After about a week, some exudate may appear. This is completely normal and should not be confused with pus. Your new piercing is easy to care for. Spray with India's disinfectant spray morning, evening and after showering. Spray and let air dry. Do not use tops, cotton or anything else. Any scabs can be gently washed off in the shower with lukewarm water and mild perfume-free soap. The most important thing during the healing period is that you do not touch your newly removed piercing with unwashed hands. You should not screw or twist the jewelry, it can not heal firmly. Avoid creams, makeup, strong food and oral contact during the healing period.
